I cannot begin to explain my lightness today, despite my daughter’s strep throat, a less-than-amusing call with Comcast this morning, my son’s stinky sneakers that are probably ruined, and a severely burnt pancake on the stove that has created this film of sexy smoke throughout the entire house – our rental – no, we don’t know where exactly we are going yet, but you know what? I am beyond grateful that the aforementioned are my greatest problems right now. My family is (mostly) healthy, we live in a safe, wonderful community, and we are together. My family is together and that’s all that I need.

Today I had the privilege of colliding with what one might call a bunch of “coincidental” blessings, and others might call them “Divine Intervention”. Whatever you call it, I absolutely am in complete awe of our community and the extending of hands from friends, family, business owners, and complete strangers.

About a week ago I found out that a little girl on the South Shore, whos princess party I had the privilege of hosting two years ago, was in need of a “special” birthday this year. Her dad has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, and this may be her last birthday with him and with her family unit as she knows it. I remember the family, I remember the train table down in the basement, I remember Abby’s face lighting up when she put on her princess gown. I am deeply moved by this news, and at the same time, deeply grateful for my home, my husband, my children, friends, and now, for my community. My parents are both in remission from cancer, and I remember the terrifying ache that came with the news. As hard as it was, this family’s news, to me, is unimaginable.

We will be donating a very special birthday bash to Abby and to her family who have been through hell this past year, and for their neighbors, family and friends who have been there to support them. The “Pajama Jam” will include lots of food, games, crafts and so many other fun things. We fully expect ALL invited attendees to arrive IN THEIR JAMMIES! Kids and adults alike. While we can’t promise “no frills” (we do specialize in that, you know?!), we wanted to create a totally laid back, FUN, warm environment for Abby, her dad, her family and friends to come together. Let me tell you, I NEVER expected to get the kind of reception that I have gotten. From venue spot to invitations to cakes to photography, games, and monetary donations, and people just wanting to be a set of hands on the special day, it is amazing to see this kind of service and help that has come out of the woodwork. We are not quite there yet as far as having everything we need, but within THREE days I had photography donations (4 of them!), videography, chocolate fountain, monetary donations, offers to be helping hands, and today… I was just blown away at how “Something” out there is taking care of this family… I made one call yesterday and this morning got a call from the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset who said they would love to donate the space, and THEN I somehow managed to score a professional DJ in BLOCKBUSTERS, of all places! Ha! That was funny to me. It is all just falling right in my lap…I guess that’s how it works, doesn’t it?

SO today I am completely grateful. It’s very true that gratitude and contentment do NOT come from our hunt for happiness, but rather from service to others. It’s just so true.
